After all, who's really going to go through all the trouble to unplug everything?  And what if the storm rolls through while you're asleep?  If you live in a house and take your chances, peep this:  I had a bolt of lightning strike near by; not even a direct hit, and even though my HDTV, VCR, DVD, XBOX and a bunch of other things were OK, it took out my WII AC adapter and my cable modem ac adapter.  Thankfully the wii is ok after trying it on a friend's adapter.  I asked my friendly neighborhood cable modem technician if there was some super awesome surge protector out there (both of the aforementioned AC adapters were plugged into  surge protectors/power strips), but he said there really isn't anything you can do.  The folks at Belkin would seem to disagree.  If you buy a surge protector from them (get one that has coaxial protection since a surge can travel up your cable itself), they will give you a $300,000 connected equipment warranty.  Assuming you register everything correctly with them after you get your surge protectors, if their surge protector doesn't protect your equipment, they will cover your losses.  (Of course it might take out your surge protector, but if it saves my HDTV and equipment, I'm down with that).  Pretty sweet.
